Freesound (freesound.org) is a collaborative online collection of Creative Commons licensed sounds.

The Session->Import dialog has a tab at the top where you can search the freesound database and directly import these sounds into your project.

Freesound allows you to browse, download and share sounds that you can use in your projects.

To learn more about the files at Freesound, and how you can share them, we encourage you to read the Freesound FAQ page

Searching the Freesound database:

Tags: enter your search-text here, and any files with that ‘tag’ will be listed in the dialog.
Sort: you can define some rules to sort the resulting file-list, like “Most Downloaded”
License: choose an appropriate license for your project, and filter the results for that license
More: this button will load an additional page of files for you to audition or import
Similar: some files, when selected, allow you to search for similar files

Click ‘Search’ to populate the dialog with a list of files.

Logging-in to Freesound:

The first time you initiate a download from Freesound, a browser window will launch and invite you to create a freesound user account. After creating an account, you will be provided with a key-code that identifies your Mixbus software as a valid mechanism to search and download sounds.

Auditioning and importing files:

When you click on a file, you must wait for the download to complete before you can audition the file.

The Freesound tab is a special ‘search’ function of the Import dialog, and operates with all the features and options of the Import dialog, with one exception: you cannot drag&drop files from the Import dialog to your session; you must first import the files to your Source List (or to a new track) before you can use them. In the future we might allow you do download directly to your Clip List, or provide a Freesound search dialog directly in the Cue page.

more details about Freesound:

When you click on a sound to audition it, the file is downloaded to your computer and saved in your Mixbus cache folder, in a subfolder called “freesound”.

On mac, this folder is: {Mac HD}/Users/{your username}/Library/Caches/MixbusX/freesound
