License Installation

At startup, Mixbus checks to see if a license is installed. If no license has been installed, you will see the following “UNLICENSED” dialog:

The dialog provides 2 options:

Paste and Apply License

After purchasing Mixbus you will receive, both on the final page of the checkout process, and in your email, a cryptographically signed license generated by us. This is the license that unlocks the full program. To use this license:

  1. Highlight the license text from beginning to end and then copy it.
  2. Click the Paste button in the dialog.
  3. Mixbus will verify the license’s signature and then allow you to apply the license to the program.
  4. Click the Apply button.

Your license has your name encrypted in it so you should never share it with anybody!

Continue in ‘Demo Mode’

Upon pressing this, Mixbus will immediately launch your web browser and prompt you to buy a license. However it will only do this once per program run and you can close your browser tab if you choose. Mixbus will then continue loading in Demo Mode and allow you to use unlimited features. However, there is an occasional, quiet “hiss” in the audio.

Alternative methods for licensing

After purchasing Mixbus you will receive, both on the final page of the checkout process, and in your email, a link to download your license generated by us. This link is good for seven days after your purchase date. Once you’ve downloaded this text file, you may keep a copy for your own use.

  1. Download the license anywhere on your system.
  2. Move the license file to your computer’s HOME folder.
  3. Start the program.

Most licensing problems we encounter involve the user putting their license files in the wrong place. The following should help determine the correct folder.

Alternative locations for the Mixbus license file:

On MacOS,Mixbus searches the following locations (first found is used):

  • $HOME/Library/Application Support/harrisonconsoles/
  • $HOME/.
  • /usr/local/share/ (intended for multi-user institution-wide licenses)

On Windows, Mixbus searches the following locations (first found is used):
You can type these in the address path bar of most modern versions of Explorer.
Simply drag your license file(s) into one of these folders.

  • $HOMEDRIVE$HOMEPATH
  • localappdata – typically C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\
  • userprofile – typically C:\Users\NAME\
  • allusersprofile + \harrisonconsoles\ – typically C:\ProgramData\harrisonconsoles\

The correct location for the license files is dependent on how your computer is set up. Typically in Windows you can do the following (this works most of the time):

  • open your C:\ folder
  • open the USERS folder
  • In the USERS folder you will see a folder with your computer’s name, or your name, or some name that was chosen when your computer was set up.
Open this folder and drag or copy your license files into it.

Another way is to use the Window -> Licence Manager pulldown in Mixbus, then click on the “Open Home Folder” button. This will open a window to the folder where Mixbus thinks your licenses should be. Drag or copy your license files into it.

On Linux, Mixbus searches the following locations (first found is used)

  • $HOME/.
  • $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/harrisonconsoles/
  • $HOME/.config/harrisonconsoles/
  • /usr/local/share/ (intended for multi-user institution-wide licenses)
