Video Demo – Bundled Clip Content

“Auditioning” is the ability to listen to and evaluate a clip before putting it into your Mixbus session.

Click on a clip in the Clip Picker to select it for auditioning. If the “auto play” is checked, the file will immediately start playing:

You can use the arrow keys or the mouse to quickly jump between files in your library. If ‘Auto Play’ is not checked then you must click the Play button to initiate auditioning.

Special Considerations for Auditioning MIDI Files

MIDI files report some extra properties when selected. They report which MIDI channels (1 through 16) are being used in the file, and also whether the file includes any program (patch) changes.

Since MIDI files contain no audio, a synthesizer is needed to listen to a MIDI clip. Mixbus contains a built-in auditioning synthesizer by default, the “General MIDI” synth. This synthesizer can respond to all 16 channels of MIDI. By default it uses a piano sound on channel 1, and a drum sound on channel 10. However some MIDI files will not sound correct with these settings. In those cases you can change the patch settings for the auditioner synthesizer

If you have a preferred synthesizer for auditioning your midi files, you can select it in the pulldown for the audition synth:
