New features, new product tiers, same great brand:

Mixbus is now available in 3 tiers: Mixbus, Mixbus Plus, and Mixbus Pro.

  • Mixbus is a full-featured DAW with the legendary Harrison 32C EQ on every channel and12 integrated stereo bus sends from every track (formerly only available in our Mixbus32C product)
  • Mixbus Plus adds a flexible Gate/Expander to the channelstrip, as well as the complete set of XT plugins which leverage Harrison’s extensive history in music and post-production DSP
  • Mixbus Pro adds the ability to export an Immersive music mix (for Dolby Atmos-compatible streaming services) as well as the option to use an SSL 9000J equalizer in the channelstrip

Immersive Mixing (Mixbus Pro only)

Starting in v10, Mixbus Pro can export ADM files: a Dolby Atmos™ compatible file format that can be uploaded to distribution services like DistroKid, which will post your immersive mixes on Tidal, Amazon and Apple Music.

Immersive panning allows more panning ‘width’ across the front soundstage, as well as adding the new dimensions of front/back and height (elevation).

Mixbus Pro makes the process easy by providing a 3d surround panner on every channel … no plugin windows to manage! …. and an integrated surround bus that provides immediate feedback of speaker levels and loudness, as well as providing extensive auditioning features.

Once uploaded to your streaming service, your immersive mixes can be played back on a variety of systems: headphones; home surround with a few speakers; or theater systems with extensive speakers ….. all from a single upload format. Each track’s position in space is potentially rendered on-the-fly for the specific user’s system, conveying a greater sense of space and weight than traditional channel-based stereo or surround systems which might only use a subset of your speaker setup.

For users without surround speakers, a binaural listening mode is provided so you can simulate a surround experience, and get an authentic feel for what your music will sound like when auditioned on headphones, as the vast majority of listeners will experience it. Immersive binaural listening provides additional stereo width which encourages clearer, cleaner, and wider mixes that don’t depend on over-compressed loudness to make a statement.

Selectable EQ Models: Harrison 32C or SSL 9000J (Mixbus Pro only)

Mixbus Pro adds the ability to select between 2 different EQs in the channelstrip: the original Harrison 32C equalizer … an accurate model of the EQ used on huge records from the 70s and 80s. Or select the SSL 9000J, with SSL’s ultra-clear “superanalogue” sound that picked up the analog banner to meet digital-studio needs, and was used on countless hits since its introduction in 1995.

Pre/Post switching on mixbus sends (Mixbus, Mixbus Plus, Mixbus Pro)

Mixbus version 10 (all tiers) now provides the ability to switch a mixbus’s sends from post-fader to pre-fader.

In addition to utilitarian tasks such as a separate submix or headphone feed, the inclusion of pre-fader sends allows you to use a very common mixing technique used in the late 60s and early 70s, whereby you build your mix into the reverb sends, and then raise faders to slowly introduce your ‘dry’ mix to assign more clarity to the drums, lead vocal and instruments. This can recreate the dreamy pop and country songs that were popular in that era.

Improved control of channelstrip elements

In version 10, we’ve added 2 new elements that you can hide and show: the Immersive panning window, and the Processor (plugin) box.

By adding the ability to hide the processor box, we have reclaimed some valuable vertical space which you can use to show 1, 2, or more of the channelstrip elements, depending on your screen’s height. And each element has been slightly increased in size to accommodate more room for knobs, switches and text within the control panel.

Shortcuts are provided to hide and show each element. With a little practice, you can FLY through your mix even with a small screen!

Additionally, we’ve consolidated the Compressor, Gate, and EQ “mode” controls to a consistent location at the bottom of each channelstrip element.

Additional fixes and improvements
