In some cases, it is desirable to see a generic display of a plugin’s controls, rather than the plugin-provided UI. Some cases might be:
- A generic UI is provided when the plugin doesn’t provide its own control panel
- If a plugin’s control panel is incompatible with your setup, this provides a way to control the plugin without showing its panel
- The generic UI can access hidden parameters or settings that are not accessible from the plugin’s control panel
- The generic UI allows you to type values directly into a slider, which might not be available in the plugin’s control panel.
- The generic UI provides direct access to Mixbus’s automation ( Read/Write/Touch )
A typical generic plugin ui is shown below:
The topmost portion of the control panel provides access to the latency compensation, pin-connections, presets, and global bypass.
Switches are provided on the left side of the dialog.
Sliders and selector menus are provided on the right side of the dialog.
To the right of each parameter is an automation button to access Read/Write/Touch automation modes for that plugin parameter. The “All Automation” buttons near the top of the dialog can be used to put all plugin parameters in Read/Write/Touch
Double-click inside a slider to type a value into the control.
Plugin Analysis
At the bottom of the dialog, you will find 3 additional features.
- Description: expose this section to see a longer description of the plugin (this is only available for LV2-format plugins)
- CPU Profile: expose this section to see a visual indication of the plugin’s average and peak (worst-case) CPU usage.
- Analysis: expose this section to see a “live” display of the plugins magnitude and phase response. This can help to expose the behavior of a plugin that you don’t understand, or suspect is malfunctioning.
