XT-CC Console Compressor is a full-featured compressor derived from Harrison’s high-end digital consoles.

Best when used on: Anything that needs dynamic level control or enhancement

Controls:

Main Input Threshold: The meter displays the input signal, and you should adjust the threshold to match the peaks of the input signal, or slightly below. This sets the basic operating range of the compressor.

Gain Reduction meter: This shows the compressor gain reduction, up to the maximum allowable Depth of 15dB

Gain Reduction History graph: This graph displays the last few seconds of the compressor gain-reduction, allowing you to view a graphical representation of the compressor’s action over time

Depth: This knob sets the maximum allowable gain reduction that the plugin will apply.

Attack / Release: These sliders affect the compressor attack and release time, respectively.

Pgm (Program-dependent attack and release): allows the plugin to monitor the average level as well as the peak level, to better retain the punch of drums or other dynamic sources.

Ratio: Increasing the ratio will make the compressor react more aggressively after the threshold is exceeded. a 3:1 ratio means that an input signal exceeding the threshold by 3dB will only increase 1dB on the output.

Knee: the knee affects the ratio so that the full ratio isn’t achieved until the input signal exceeds the threshold by the ‘knee’ amount. Given a 3:1 ratio, and a 4dB knee, the ratio will be 1:1 when the signal reaches the threshold, and the ratio will also increase until the full 3:1 ratio is being applied when the signal exceeds the threshold by 4dB.

Makeup: this applies a volume-boost to the output signal. The operation of a compressor can reduce the average level of a signal. Makeup-gain is provided to increase the output of the compressed signal.

External SC: enable this to have the compressor key from a ‘sidechain’ signal instead of the input signal.

Sidechain Listen: enable this to listen to the sidechain signal. This signal is post-sidechain-eq. If you have selected an external sidechain then you will hear the external sidechain signal with the EQ applied.

Sidechain EQ: enable this to listen to apply an EQ to the sidechain signal. This can customize the compressor’s action to emphasize or ignore a portion of the sidechain signal.

Sidechain EQ (shape): choose from the 7 available eq shapes

Sidechain EQ (graph): adjust the sidechain EQ’s frequency and gain (where applicable)

Presets: four starting presets are provided to apply settings of some common compression tasks. In many cases you only need to adjust the threshold to match the input signal, to achieve a good compressor sound.

Momentary Bypass: the top-right corner is a momentary-bypass button. Press this button to temporarily bypass the effect. Releasing the button will re-apply the effect.
