v8: A major milestone for arranging, editing, and creation

Mixbus32C v8 is a major milestone in Mixbus’s development, with many under-the-hood improvements in arranging, MIDI sequencing, and editing. Our customers have found Mixbus to be their preferred mixing tool, but many requested that we provide more features for arranging and creation. You spoke, and we listened!

The new Cue Page means that Mixbus provides 4 discrete workflows to help you meet your production goals:

  • use the Cue page to trigger clips to creatively build a song’s foundation.
  • use the Recorder page to capture multiple channels like a traditional multitrack tape studio
  • use the Editor page to automate, trim, fade, cut, copy and paste your arrangements
  • … and mix it all through the Mixer page with Harrison’s dedicated “True Analog” Engine

The ‘Cue’ Page (NEW!)

Mixbus 32C v8 adds exciting creative tools for triggering of clips, looping and sound effects via the Cue page. On the Cue page, you can:

  • Drag and drop ‘clips’ into the trigger grid. Use your own files, or use the free content provided in Mixbus
  • Trigger combinations of clips to make arrangements and beats in real-time
  • Bounce your linear recordings (vocal, guitars, drums, etc) into a Clip so you can loop and arrange it with other clips
  • Define “Follow Options” which trigger at the end of a clip, and introduce some random elements to your arrangements
  • Use Cues to trigger a ‘row’ of clips in the grid
  • Record or place those Cues as markers on your linear timeline, and then find the clips that best suit your arrangement

MIDI Arranging and Editing improvements

  • an updated MIDI sequencing engine (we call it ‘NuTempo’) provides much better synchronization between the musical (MIDI) and audio times on the timeline. This multi-year development effort resolves many tricky issues with midi and event timing. NuTempo opens the door to many future improvements including better tempo-mapping, looping and stretching regions with warp-markers, and many more improvements both subtle and dramatic.
  • In the editor, choosing the Draw tool will now display dedicated pulldown menus to select the note length, channel, and midi velocity. These controls make it easier to specify exactly what you want to draw in a MIDI region. For those who prefer Mixbus to make a ‘best guess’ using the surrounding notes and track settings, you can select ‘Auto’ to get the old behavior.
